Hong's political experience
- Hong has served as one of Lynn's Councilors-At-Large for seven terms, making tough policy and budgeting decisions for the benefit of Lynn's residents.
- Hong has served as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for over eight years. His responsibilities include helping to raise revenue and review city budgets to ensure appropriate distribution of funds to departments and various agencies in Lynn.
- Hong has worked tirelessly with the Lynn Housing Authority (LHA) to provide housing assistance, including programs for first-time homebuyers, state and federal housing vouchers, tenant and landlord issues, lead abatement, rehab loans, and RAFT. He collaborated with non-profit organizations to raise over $300,000, helping more than 500 families in Lynn with their rental and mortgage down payments.
- As chairman of ADHOC, Hong collaborated with the election office to strategically relocate voting polls throughout the city.
- In his role as chairman of Public Property and Parks, Hong collaborated with the YMCA, as well as local and state officials, to facilitate the development of a new YMCA building in Lynn. Additionally, he advocated for efforts with the Law Department and Assessor's Office to initiate the public bidding process for city properties, marking the first instance of such transparency and accessibility.
- As chairman of the Government Administration Committee, Hong coordinated efforts between the Law Department to facilitate a collaborative agreement among all taxi companies in Lynn. This agreement aimed to fairly distribute taxi medallions to the various companies involved.
- Hong founded the Lynn's Human Rights Commission in 2012, aiming to eradicate unlawful discrimination while fostering awareness and education on human rights matters within the city of Lynn.
- Hong worked overseas for a non-governmental organization and the United Nations Development Program, where he assisted the newly democratic government of Cambodia in drafting laws for the country.
